The Golden Sun series of video games is a fantasy role-playing video game franchise created by Camelot Software Planning and published by Nintendo. The series follows the adventures of magically-attuned "adepts" tasked with keeping the destructive powers of alchemy from destroying their world. The series also features an open world, which allows the player to explore and collect as much gold as possible. Golden Sun is the second game in the series, following the previous title "Arcana of Truth".
The Golden Sun series started as a single planned title for the Nintendo 64. However, due to hardware limitations, the developers remade it as a mobile title. Despite its shortcomings, Golden Sun received positive reviews and eventually sold over a million copies in Japan and the United States. The game also inspired a series of sequels, as well as appearances in film and television. The Gameboy Advance and Virtual Console versions were later re-released.
